- Description
- Kingston, New Jersey, is an unincorporated historical community that straddles the county line between Franklin Township, Somerset County, and South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County. It is located at the point where the Millstone River crosses Route 27, which was once a major colonial-era road called King's Highway. Kingston was one of the earliest settlements in the vicinity of Princeton and was active as a milling and commercial center since the early 18th century. Kingston never had its own separate municipal administration; as a result, documents related to slavery in Kingston are scattered among the records of the surrounding townships. Researchers seeking information about Kingston may want to consult records for Franklin, South Brunswick, and Princeton.
