The Col. John Van Cleve Homestead, also known as the Hopewell Township Poor Farm, is located at 44 Poor Farm Road in Hopewell, Mercer County, New Jersey. The property is on the National Register of Historic Places.
This property is a historical site of enslavement as Hunterdon County records indicate that Col. John Van Cleve (1757-1814) held Black people in bondage in the early 19th century. One of the structures on the property is the Old Van Cleve Farmhouse, built in the 18th century for the Van Cleve family. Another structure is the poor farm that was established on this property after Col. John Van Cleve's death. - Locality
