Little Falls refers to a waterfall on the Passaic River in New Jersey. The community located in this area takes its name from the waterfall. Today, Little Falls township is a municipality in Passaic County. The township was incorporated in 1868, but the name Little Falls was associated with this community since the colonial era.
Prior to 1868, the community of Little Falls was a village within Acquackanonk township. This area was originally part of Essex County, until Passaic County split off from Essex in 1837. Thus, records related to slavery in the vicinity of Little Falls may be filed under "Acquackanonk, Essex County." - Locality
