- Matthew Mentor (or Mathew Mantor) was the captain of the Sloop Thorn, which took 39 enslaved people from Perth Amboy to New Orleans in May 1818. He was working for Charles Morgan, the owner of the Thorn, and was part of the Van Wickle slave trading ring operation.
