- Biographical Description
- A Black woman was enslaved in the household of Edward Hunt in Pennington village, Hunterdon County (in present-day Mercer County) during the Revolutionary War. She became a victim of sexual violence during the war at the hands of the occupying British troops. As a result of repeated abuse, she became pregnant and then had a miscarriage. Her story was recalled by a white Jersey militia man from Hopewell years later, but her name was not recorded in the source document.
