Burlington County Deed Book A, Folio 182, contains a manumission record for Beulah Waters, who was released from slavery on 2 March 1787 in Evesham. Beulah Waters was manumitted by William Wilkins. The manumission document states that Beulah Waters was an adult between 21 and 35 years old, but the exact age was not recorded.
The document was entered into the book by the County Clerk (John Phillips) on 5 May 1787. The manumission record was signed by the Overseers of the Poor for the township (Enoch Evans and William Evans) and Justices of the Peace for Burlington County (Josiah Foster and Reece Edwards).
Page 183 in the same book contains a related manumission record for Patience Pero, who was also manumitted by William Wilkins on the same day.
The source document was scanned by the New Jersey State Archives, which houses the original deed book. - Event Type
