Burlington County Deed Book A, Folio 220, contains a manumission record for Nanny, who was released from slavery on 2 March 1787 in Evesham. Nanny was manumitted by Nathan Haines. The manumission document states that Nanny was an adult between 21 and 35 years old, but the exact age was not recorded.
The document was entered into the book by the County Clerk (John Phillips). The manumission record was signed by the Overseers of the Poor for the township (Enoch Evans and William Evans) and Justices of the Peace for Burlington County (Josiah Foster and Reece Edwards).
The source document was scanned by the New Jersey State Archives, which houses the original deed book.
Pages 221 and 222 in the same book indicate that Nathan Haines also manumitted a woman named Romia and a man named Kingston on the same day. - Event Type
