Burlington County Deed Book A, Folio 226, contains a manumission record for Hannah Williams, who was released from slavery on 2 December 1786 in Chester. Hannah Williams was manumitted by Joseph Hackney. The manumission document states that Hannah Williams was an adult between 21 and 35 years old, but the exact age was not recorded.
The document was entered into the book by the County Clerk (John Phillips). The manumission record was signed by the Overseers of the Poor for the township (John Collins and Joshua Hunt) and Justices of the Peace for Burlington County (Darling Conrow and Reece Edwards).
The source document was scanned by the New Jersey State Archives, which houses the original deed book.
Page 225 in the same book indicates that Joseph Hackney also manumitted a man named Sam Waters on the same day. - Event Type
