- Description
- Maple Shade is a township in the northwestern section of Burlington County, New Jersey, located between the North Branch and South Branch of the Pennsauken Creek. The township officially adopted the name Maple Shade in 1945; this name was already in use for the local railroad station since the late 19th century. The municipality of Maple Shade has its roots in the historical Chester Township, which existed from 1688 until 1945 in Burlington County and originally stretched from Pennsauken Creek to Rancocas Creek. Chester Township originally included the area of Maple Shade, Moorestown, as well as Cinnaminson and its surrounding communities along the Delaware River. See the record for Chester Township for a timeline of municipal border changes.
