- Description

Nottingham Township is a defunct municipality that existed from 1688 until 1856 in New Jersey. It was located along the Delaware River, with its territory stretching from the Assunpink Creek to the Crosswicks Creek. It was originally part of Burlington County and was transferred to Mercer County when Mercer County was created in 1838.
Most, but not all, of the original Nottingham Township is now called Hamilton Township. The territory of Nottingham Township also originally encompassed the southern part of present-day Trenton, i.e., that portion of Trenton that lies south of the Assunpink Creek. Nottingham began to splinter in the 1840s, with portions of its territory gradually split between the new Hamilton Township and Trenton City.
Today, the name Nottingham can still be seen on some roads and institutions in Hamilton Township. - Locality
