- Biographical Description
- Grace was a Black woman who lived in Somerset County, New Jersey, in the early 19th century. She was enslaved by Jacob Van Dike. A birth certificate for her daughter Caroline has been found among Somerset County records for Franklin Township. According to historical records for the early 19th century, Grace's enslaver, Jacob Van Dike, had a large farm in the area of Ten Mile Run (a community that lies at the border of Franklin Township, Somerset County, and South Brunswick, Middlesex County). Grace likely resided in that area.
