- Biographical Description
-
Peter Voorhees was an enslaver who lived in Somerset County in the early 19th century. His township of residence is not known. He held in bondage a woman named Bet, and he filed a birth certificate for Bet's children in 1815 (the births took place in 1808 and 1810). However, he did not write down his place of residence on the document.
Note that there were several other slavery records filed under the name Peter Voorhees in Somerset County in the 1810s that omitted a township of residence. These were entered separately into the New Jersey Slavery Records database, but there is a possibility that they may be referring to the same Peter Voorhees. - Keywords
