Francis Brazier (or Brasier) was a white merchant who lived in the area of the Raritan River in the 18th century. According to William Nelson's research in the New Jersey Archives, Brazier was a merchant at the Upper Landing on the Raritan near New Brunswick, was affiliated with churches in Perth Amboy and in New Brunswick, and had had a farm in Somerset County.
Brazier was a slave trader. Between 1757 and 1763, he invested in several voyages that transported enslaved people from Africa to the Caribbean and to New Jersey aboard the schooner Sally, under the command of Captain Thomas Farmer.
Brazier's name also appears in the Revolutionary War damages book for Somerset County, where Brazier claimed that an enslaved black man escaped from him and went off with the British troops. - Keywords
