The New Jersey Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery enumerated black people (free and enslaved) who lived in Northampton, Burlington County, around 1797. This person’s name appeared on the list. See the related Registration event for more information.
Thomas Brown was listed with a wife and 2 children. Several lines below this notation, the name Thomas Brown appears again with wife "and several children." This is probably a duplicate entry and a mistake on the part of the enumerator. However, it is also possible that two black men of the same name lived in the township, and both were married with children. - Keywords
