- A Black woman, whose name has not been found in historical records, was a cook in the Hardenbergh household in Somerville, NJ. Jacob Rutsen Hardenbergh Jr. (1768-1841) placed an advertisement for her sale in December 1800 in a New Brunswick newspaper.
