Lidiann (or Lidia) was one of the victims of the Van Wickle slave trading ring in Middlesex County, New Jersey, in 1818. The legal documents related to the removal of Lidiann from the state of New Jersey to Louisiana suggest that she was born around 1796 and was aged 22 at the time of these events. James Brown was her original enslaver in New Jersey, and he sold Lidiann to the slave trader Charles Morgan. Lidiann was taken to Louisiana aboard the brig Mary Ann, together with her 3-year-old daughter Harriet Jane.
Her name appears as "Lidiann" on p. 237 of the Middlesex County Book of Manumissions and Removals and as "Lidia" on p. 241 of the same book. - Keywords
