Peter was a boy who was enslaved by William Manning of Piscataway, NJ, in the early 19th century. His date of birth is uncertain. William Manning’s will, written on September 23, 1814 (shortly before his death), ordered that Peter should be liberated on May 1, 1830. Until that time, Peter would have to serve Manning's widow Anna Manning, and if Anna died before 1830, then Peter would serve Manning's nephew William T. Manning.
See the will of William Manning for a listing of other enslaved people in the household, some of whom were likely related to Peter. - Keywords
