- Lun was born in 1809, the child of Kate (enslaved by Andrew McDowell Jr. of South Brunswick, NJ). Under the provisions of New Jersey's Gradual Abolition Act of 1804, he was considered a slave for a term of 25 years and would become eligible for emancipation upon reaching that age.
