- Jane Brown was born in 1806, the child of Dina (enslaved by Benjamin A. Brown of Woodbridge, NJ). Under the provisions of New Jersey's Gradual Abolition Act of 1804, she was considered a slave for a term of 21 years and would become eligible for emancipation upon reaching that age.
