Biographical Description
Catherine Wallace was born in 1824, the child of Julia Ann Wallace (enslaved by Ellen Clark of Middlesex County, NJ) and George Wallace. Under the provisions of New Jersey's Gradual Abolition Act of 1804, she was considered a slave for a term of 21 years and would become eligible for emancipation upon reaching that age.
