- Biographical Description

Saul was born in 1806, the child of Dinah (enslaved by Joseph Barron of Woodbridge, NJ). Under the provisions of New Jersey's Gradual Abolition Act of 1804, he was considered a slave for a term of 25 years and would become eligible for emancipation upon reaching that age.
Notably, there was an older man named Saul associated with the Barron household in Woodbridge. The older Saul had been manumitted by Joseph Barron in 1803. It is possible that the older man Saul was the father (or other relation) of the younger Saul. - Keywords
