Event Description
Middlesex County Births of Enslaved Children book contains the following record:

Page: 69
Child: Harry
Mother: Jenny
Father: Enos
Enslaver of mother and child: Thomas C. Brown
Enslaver of father: John Brown
Location: Middlesex County, NJ [probably Woodbridge]
Birth date: January 5, 1815
Reported date: December 11, 1822
Clerk: William Philips Deare

The birth certificate does not list a specific place of residence within Middlesex County for Thomas C. Brown and the enslaved mother Jenny and infant Harry. However, other county records indicate that John Brown (the enslaver of Harry's father Enos) lived in Woodbridge, and several other Brown family members were known to reside in Woodbridge as well. Thus, Woodbridge is the probable location of Harry's birth.
