- Event Description
- The Middlesex County Births of Enslaved Children Book contains a record for a child named Joseph Jennings on page 72. The child was born on April 15, 1815. This birth certificate is incomplete: the name of the enslaver was not recorded, and the names of the parents were not recorded either. The record only says, "Joseph Jennings was born April 15th in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifteen." It appears that the clerk (William P. Deare) made this notation in the book sometime between January and May of 1824.
