Biographical Description
Cato was a Black man born circa 1761. He was enslaved by Col. Philip Van Horne of Middlebrook, Somerset County, NJ, who died in 1786. He was then enslaved by William M'Kissick of Pluckemin, also in Somerset County, although it is uncertain exactly when and how Cato arrived in M'Kissick's household. In 1794, Cato ran away from William M'Kissick.
