- Biographical Description
- Robert was a Black boy enslaved by Isabella Kearney of Shrewsbury in the mid-18th century. His baptism is recorded in the Parish Register of Christ Episcopal Church in Shrewsbury in 1756. Next to the name Robert (but in a separate column) is written the name Johnson. This seems to suggest that the boy's full name was "Robert Johnson." Alternatively, because of the peculiar way the names were recorded in separate columns, there is a possibility that the names Robert and Johnson actually refer to two brothers.
