Biographical Description

Sussex County Births of Enslaved Children microfilm contains a birth record for Phebe, enslaved by Jacob Hornbeck of Sandyston. The name of the mother was not listed on the birth certificate.

An adult woman named Yon lived in Hornbeck's household and was listed as the mother of several other children between 1818 and 1825. It is possible that Yon was also Phebe's mother. See the record for Yon for information about Phebe's potential siblings.
