- Biographical Description
- A Black boy was born in 1804 at the house of James Beardslee. A man named George Beardslee submitted a birth registration for this boy to the Sussex County Clerk in 1805, stating that the boy was born at the house of James Beardslee and was, at the time of his birth, enslaved by Abram Corson. The boy's name does not appear on the birth record or is illegible. Considering that Corson was listed as the original enslaver, it is not entirely clear why Beardslee was the one who submitted the birth registration. It is possible that the boy, and possibly his mother, were sold from Corson to the Beardslee family or else that the boy's mother was temporarily working for the Beardslee family.
