- Biographical Description
- Sussex County Births of Enslaved Children microfilm contains a birth record for a girl named Clarry, born on September 22, 1808. The names of her parents were not recorded on the birth certificate. She was originally enslaved by John Axford and his wife Abigail Axford née Hunt of Oxford Township (then located in Sussex County, but now part of Warren County). Clarry's original enslavers both died when she was an infant. Two Black people named Jack and Isabel were enumerated in the inventory of John Axford's estate in 1809. It is possible that Isabel was Clarry's mother, but this has not been definitively confirmed.
