- Biographical Description
- Nance was a Black woman enslaved by Abraham Shaver of Stillwater, NJ, in the early 19th century. Her enslaver was the proprietor of the Shafer Grist Mill in Stillwater. Abraham Shaver mentioned Nance in his will, written in December 1819, shortly before Shaver's death. Shaver stipulated that Nance should continue to serve his widow Sarah Armstrong Shaver.
