- Event Description
-
Sussex County Births of Enslaved Children microfilm contains the following record:
Child: Isaac
Mother: name not listed
Enslaver of mother and child: John A. Johnson
Location: Sussex County
Birth date: September 10, 1815
Recorded date: February 23, 1816
Clerk: Clerk not listed, presumed Ephraim Green
The township is not listed on this birth certificate; however, another birth certificate submitted by John A. Johnson several years later listed him as a resident of Independence township. Thus, it can be inferred that the child was likely born in that township.
In addition to the clerk's notations regarding the filing of the birth certificate, the back of the paper contains some writing that appears unrelated to the child, i.e. the name "Joseph Green" written out three times and the word "Philadelphia." - Event Type
