- Biographical Description
-
I. Thomas was a newspaper printer in Trenton who was in partnership with George Sherman and John Mershon at the turn on the 19th century. He was affiliated with the newspaper the New-Jersey State Gazette in 1799 and then the Federalist & New-Jersey State Gazette in 1800.
His newspaper routinely printed runaway notices and slave sale advertisements. The sale ads sometimes invited prospective buyers to "inquire of the printer," indicating that Thomas and his associates helped facilitate these sales. - Keywords
