The Following Abandonment Certificate was submitted to the Overseer of the Poor of the Township of Piscataway:

Child: Alexander
Mother: Elizabeth
Enslaver of Mother and Child: Jeremiah Manning
Abandonment Certificate Date: May 8, 1806
Child’s Date of Birth: August 16, 1805
The Certificate is addressed to Edward Griffith and David Correll, Overseers of the Poor.

This certificate indicates that the enslaver abandoned all his legal rights and title to the child and gave up the child to the Overseer of the Poor to be bound out as a pauper.
