- Biographical Description
-
Jim was an enslaved Black man who lived in Princeton, NJ, in the late 18th century. He was born circa 1775. He ran away in 1795 together with a friend named Sam and went to Trenton, Philadelphia, and then possibly Baltimore.
Jim was enslaved by either John Schenck or John Dye (or possibly, though less likely, by both of them); these two enslavers jointly posted a runaway notice in pursuit of Jim and Sam, and the runaway ad did not clarify which of the two enslavers held Jim in bondage prior to his escape. - Keywords
