- Biographical Description
- John Taylor was the father of Mary Taylor Bainbridge and the father-in-law of Absalom Bainbridge. His daughter's family lived at the Bainbridge House on Nassau Street in Princeton in the 1770s. He allegedly purchased a Black man named Prime from his daughter in 1777 and then sold Prime to another enslaver named John Vanhorne. These sales were among the disputed facts in Prime's legal battle for freedom after the Revolutionary War (Prime eventually gained freedom by an act of the New Jersey legislature in 1786).
