Samuel Stanhope Smith (professor and later president of Princeton University) placed a slave sale advertisement in a Trenton newspaper. Smith sought to sell a 25-year-old Black man who was trained as a farmer and to acquire instead a new enslaved worker to perform domestic labor in Smith's home in Princeton.

Or exchanged for a servant accustomed to cooking and waiting in a genteel family,
A NEGRO SERVANT,
About 25 years of age, who is well acquainted with the business of a plantation, and used to taking care of horses. Enquire of the Printer, or of the subscriber in Princeton.
