Wayne is a township located near the Pompton River in Passaic County, New Jersey. It was incorporated as a separate municipality in 1847.
Since the early 18th century, this area was considered part of Saddle River Township in Bergen County. A significant portion of Bergen County was annexed in 1837 to form the new Passaic County, and Manchester Township was formed at that time in Passaic. Ten years later, in 1847, a portion of Manchester Township was annexed to create the new township of Wayne.
Due to this area's long historical association with Bergen County, documents related to slavery here will primarily be found among Bergen County records. - Locality
