- Biographical Description
- Jack was a French-speaking Black man born circa 1770. It appears that he grew up in Haiti and was brought to Trenton, New Jersey, during the Haitian Revolution. He was enslaved by Louis Rossignol de Belleanse, a French planter who fled Haiti during the Haitian Revolution with his family. In Trenton, Jack lived with Louis Rossignol de Belleanse at the house of Jacques Philipe Rossignol de Grandmont (a relative of Belleanse who was also a planter from Haiti). Jack ran away from his enslaver in Trenton in December 1803.
