Runaway ad for Prime, by Edmund Burroughs
-
Runaway ad for Prime, by Edmund Burroughs, "Twenty Dollars Reward," Trenton Federalist, September 13, 1802, p. 3.
- Event Description
- As evidenced by a runaway ad published in September 1802, Prime ran away from his enslaver Edmund Burroughs of Hopewell, Hunterdon County, NJ. At that time, Prime was about 19 years old. What exactly happened after he ran away and how long he managed to evade capture is uncertain. However, we do know that Edmund Burroughs would go on to manumit Prime in 1809, and thus we can infer that Prime was captured following his escape and returned to his enslaver's household sometime after the publication of the runaway ad.
