Description
The earliest documented jail in Cape May County was built in 1705. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the jail was located in the area of Cape May Court House. Several different buildings have been used as the county jail since the colonial era, and the early buildings have not survived. The county sheriff was in charge of the jail.
