- Biographical Description
- Dinah was a Black woman born circa 1751. She gave birth to a son named Friday in 1767. She and her son Friday were purchased by the Rev. Oliver Hart in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1771. They then moved with Hart to Hopewell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, in 1780. By the early 1790s, Rev. Hart gave Dinah to his daughter-in-law Sarah Hart, who was the widow of Hart's son Doctor Oliver Hart Jr. Dinah was mentioned in Oliver Hart's will, which stipulated that she would serve Sarah Hart unless Sarah Hart remarried, in which case Dinah would be sold.
