- Biographical Description
- William Tuttle was a white newspaper printer who lived in Newark, New Jersey. He was the main proprietor and printer of the Centinel of Freedom newspaper beginning in 1803. He was originally in partnership with John Pike, but eventually became the sole owner of the newspaper. In 1813, he partnered with his brother John Tuttle, and the Centinel of Freedom newspaper was then printed by the firm of John Tuttle & Co., but William Tuttle continued his work in the business. After John Tuttle died in 1823, the newspaper was once again printed under the name of William Tuttle.
