Somerset County birth records of enslaved children contain a birth certificate for Mary, born on 19 September 1810, originally enslaved by David Kirkpatrick Sr. in the Mine Brook area of Bernards township. It appears that Mary and her parents were inherited by David Kirkpatrick Jr. because David Jr. filed the delayed birth registration for Mary shortly after his father's death in 1814.
The names of Mary's parents have not been confirmed, and they are not listed on her birth certificate. It is possible that Caesar, a man also inherited by David Jr. from his father's estate, was Mary's father. - Keywords
