- Biographical Description
- Sip Quon was a Black man who lived in Mansfield in the late 18th century and was enslaved by Mary Pope, who died in 1783. Burlington County records indicate that Mary Pope's son and heir, John Pope, released Sip Quon from slavery in 1786. Sip Quon's exact age was not recorded at the time of his manumission, but he was an adult between the ages of 21 and 35. Two of his family members, Gabriel Quon and Adam Quon, were also manumitted by the Pope family on the same day. Considering that the manumission documents refer to Gabriel and Adam as "lads," but refer to Sip as a "man," it can be inferred that Sip was probably older than the other two men.
