- Somerset County birth records of enslaved children contain a birth certificate for Pompey, son of Betty, born on 11 April 1813. Pompey was born at the household of the widow Lemmetye Van Neste in Hillsborough. After Van Neste's death in 1816, Pompey and his mother and siblings lived with Van Neste's son-in-law John J. Schenck in the same township.
