- Biographical Description
- Mina was a Black woman born circa 1786. It appears she grew up in the household of Jacob and Abigail Stokes in Newton, Gloucester County (in the area of present-day Camden County). Jacob Stokes died before May 1805. When Mina reached age 21 in 1807, she was manumitted by two people who jointly signed the manumission deed: Abigail Stokes (widow of Jacob Stokes) and John Stokes (one of the heirs and co-executors of the Jacob Stokes estate).
