Biographical Description
Cato Stone was a man enslaved by William Stone of Woodbridge, NJ. William Stone died in 1788, and it is uncertain where Cato Stone resided or whom he served for 13 years after William Stone's death. One June 13, 1801, Cato Stone was manumitted by Thomas Edgar, one of the executors of the will of William Stone, who noted that it had been the wish of William Stone that Cato Stone should be set free.
