Florah was one of the victims of Jacob Van Wickle's slave trading ring in Middlesex County, New Jersey, in 1818. The legal documents related to the removal of Florah from the state of New Jersey to Pointe Coupee, Louisiana, suggest that she was born around 1795 and was aged 23 at the time of the events in 1818. Florah left the state with her 7-month-old daughter Susan.
