Event Description
Samuel, aged 38, was manumitted by Thomas Blackwell of South Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey.

The certificate of manumission was signed by the Overseers of the Poor of South Brunswick (Samuel Gulick and Daniel J. Barricklo) and Justices of the Peace for Middlesex County (John Bastedo and Aaron Gulick) on June 12, 1824. The document stated that Samuel was examined in court and met the eligibility requirements for manumission in New Jersey, i.e. the person was 21 to 40 years old and was "sound in mind and not under any bodily incapacity" of obtaining a livelihood.

The deed of manumission was signed on June 12, 1824, by Austin D. Blackwell, as agent for Thomas Blackwell (Austin was Thomas Blackwell's son).

These documents were recorded by the Middlesex County Clerk (William P. Deare) on June 15, 1824.
