Runaway ad for Tine, by Barnt DeKlyn, "Twenty Dollars Reward," Trenton Federalist, June 29, 1818, p. 3.
- Event Description
-
Charles lived with Edmund Burk of Trenton as a hostler (a stableman taking care of horses), prior to working for Barnt DeKlyn. Information about Charles's employment comes from a runaway ad posted by Barnt DeKlyn in 1818. The ad appears to imply that Charles was a free Black man, but his freedom status is uncertain.
