Runaway ad for Isabella, Harriet and Ess, by Samuel Berrien, "Thirty Dollars Reward," Trenton Federalist, September 9, 1805.
- Event Description
-
Three young Black women named Isabella, Harriet, and Ess escaped together from enslaver Samuel Berrien of Allentown, NJ, on February 1, 1805. It was thought that the women were living in or near Burlington after they escaped. Their enslaver issued a notice offering a reward of 30 dollars for their capture on September 3, 1805. This suggests that the three women were still at large 7 months after they ran away from their enslaver.
